The Transfer of the Relics of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker
Today, May 9, marks an important event in the history of the Orthodox Church - the transfer of the holy relics of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. This event took place in 1087 and has significant historical and spiritual importance. Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, died around 335, and his remains were buried in Myra.
According to the tradition,
Saint Nicholas appeared in a dream to the presbyter from Bari and asked to transfer his relics from Myra to this Italian city. After that, representatives of Bari went to Myra and on April 11, 1087, returned with the relics of Saint Nicholas. On May 9 of the same year, the relics were solemnly transferred to the church in Bari, where they became the object of numerous miracles and healings of the sick.
