Andrii Hnatov has been dismissed from the position of Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.


The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed Andrii Hnatov from the position of Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is reported by 'Glavkom'.
«Dismiss Hnatov Andrii Viktorovych from the position of Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine», – the decree states.
The reasons for this personnel decision remain unknown, and the new appointee to this military position has not yet been announced.
Major General has held this position since June 2024, when the president made the decision to replace the Commander of the Joint Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Yurii Sodol, with Andrii Hnatov.
Hnatov began his military career in the Marine Corps and served in Crimea. After the peninsula was annexed by Russia, he actively participated in the formation of new Marine Corps units from units that came out of the occupied territory. From 2018 to 2021, he headed the 36th Marine Brigade.
With the onset of the full-scale invasion, Hnatov was appointed Deputy Commander of the troops of the Operational Command 'South' and was one of the leaders of the defense of Mykolaiv. In June 2022, he received the rank of Brigadier General.
In the spring of 2023, he led the defense of Bakhmut, working in close coordination with the then Alexander Syrskii. After his appointment as Chief Commander, Hnatov became the Commander of the troops of the Operational Command 'East'.
In August 2024, Zelensky awarded the military rank of Major General to Andrii Hnatov.
