The President of the United States suspended funding for the University of Pennsylvania in the amount of $175 million due to the participation of transgender swimmer Lia Thomas in sports competitions. Lia Thomas competed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and won victories in the Ivy League. In February, Donald Trump banned transgender athletes from competing with female athletes, and therefore the swimmer filed a lawsuit. Representatives of the University of Pennsylvania have not yet confirmed receipt of the funding suspension notice.
