Far-right leaders have expressed their willingness to undermine the government as soon as Netanyahu agrees to a ceasefire. They see this conflict as an opportunity to expand settlements in the West Bank, which requires a prolonged military occupation of Palestinian territories.
If the government falls, Netanyahu could face criminal charges and even go to prison. A significant number of Israelis believe that in making decisions, Netanyahu is guided not by national interests but by personal ones.
Netanyahu continues to receive support for his fight against Hamas. But when the consequences for the hostages held by Hamas become apparent, distrust of Netanyahu's motives spreads throughout the country.
