Bolton called the US-Russia negotiations a 'disaster' over Witkoff.

Former US advisor John Bolton criticized the negotiation process between the US and Russia. He called it 'catastrophic' due to the unprofessionalism of Stephen Witkoff, who represents the American side. Bolton pointed out that Witkoff does not have sufficient training for international negotiations, particularly regarding the war in Ukraine. He also noted that Witkoff lacks adequate knowledge about Ukraine, Russia, Iran, nuclear weapons, arms control, and non-proliferation.
According to Bolton, Witkoff follows President's instructions without having personal experience in international negotiations. It is noted that Witkoff lacks diplomatic experience, while veteran US representative on Ukraine and Russia, General Keith Kellogg, is effectively sidelined from the negotiations.
Regarding Witkoff's trips, he is accompanied by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and former Trump national security advisor Mike Waltz. They have political experience but lack practical experience in conducting negotiations with Russia at such a level.
Bolton believes that this personnel policy of the Trump administration threatens the effectiveness of negotiations regarding Ukraine and global security. He also warns of a possible failure of peace initiatives and the strengthening of Russia's position in the international arena.
According to WSJ, Trump's 'blow' to Ukraine has led to losses.
