More than 40 thousand Russians have applied to the "I Want to Live" project during the war.

The state project "I Want to Live" received 40,157 applications from Russians in two years since its launch. This number continues to grow despite the resistance of Russian special services. This is stated by the Unified Center for Receiving Applications from Russian Military Personnel.
Regardless of the situation on the front line, operations for evacuating Russian military personnel who voluntarily surrendered continue. Every 2 days, representatives of the Russian Armed Forces are brought to the Ukrainian side, it is reported.
The "I Want to Live" project guarantees the preservation of the lives of Russians, whom the Kremlin regime puts before a choice: to die under the fire of Ukrainian soldiers or to be nullified in case of unwillingness to end their lives themselves. As part of the project, Russians are documented as prisoners of war and are under the protection of Ukraine.
This allows them to survive the war in normal conditions and avoid exchange. Also, they can stay in Ukraine after the conflict ends and not return to the Russian regime. This was stated by the Unified Center for Receiving Applications from Russian Military Personnel.
Russian mercenaries and fleeing military personnel
Ukraine is concerned about Russia's activities in using mercenaries from African countries, including the "African Corps".
Additionally, Ukrainian GUR reported that mercenaries from South Asian countries are massively fleeing the Russian occupation army due to non-payment of promised money, cruel treatment by commanders, and enormous losses.
The Russian side has been actively recruiting foreigners since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine, promising them citizenship and payment for crimes against the Ukrainian people. But, according to the press service of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, most of the mercenaries from Syria will not return home.
