EU prepares strike against Russia's 'shadow fleet' over Baltic Sea sabotage.

The European Union plans to impose sanctions against Russia's 'shadow fleet' due to damage to power cables in the Baltic Sea
The European Union plans to impose sanctions against Russia's 'shadow fleet' due to damage to power cables in the Baltic Sea. In addition, there will be an increase in the protection of European critical infrastructure.
This was reported by the EU's high representative for external affairs and security policy, Kaia Kallas.
The joint statement from the European Commission and the High Representative notes that the damage to power supply and data transmission cables in the Baltic Sea at the beginning of January was the last incident in a series of attacks on critical infrastructure.
We are grateful to the Finnish authorities for their swift actions regarding the suspected vessel
Kallas also noted that the EU is actively cooperating with Finnish authorities in investigating this incident.
She added that the European Commission is 'fully in solidarity' with Finland, Estonia, and Germany.
We strongly condemn any intentional destruction of Europe’s critical infrastructure. The suspected vessel is part of Russia’s 'shadow fleet', which threatens security and the environment and finances Russia's military budget. We will propose further measures, including sanctions, against this fleet
Kallas stated that following these incidents, the EU will enhance measures to protect underwater cables, including improved information sharing, the use of new detection technologies, and underwater repair capabilities, as well as fostering international cooperation.
Kallas emphasized that the EU will continue to ensure the stability and security of critical infrastructure. She also noted that there is currently no threat to electricity supply security in the region.
