The EU has found a way to bypass Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's veto regarding support for Ukraine, reports 'Khvylia' citing Politico.

Now European leaders are ignoring Hungary's opinion on Ukraine and are not waiting for its consent. They have found a way to bypass the veto from Budapest.

According to the publication, Viktor Orban has always opposed any attempt to strengthen military assistance to Ukraine or support the country's application to join the European Union.

The standard rules requiring the consent of all 27 EU countries to issue a joint statement on behalf of the European Council have been violated. The text agreed upon by 26 countries was added to other resolutions that were adopted unanimously (with the participation of 27 countries, - ed.). Despite Hungary's protests, this text was published as an official conclusion of the European Council.

One senior EU diplomat said: 'The statement (on March 20, - ed.) regarding Ukraine was published as an annex that was signed by 26 countries. This is a new phenomenon. And it is useful when it comes to political intentions. Over Time, we may face other problems.'

Thus, he confirmed the journalists' words that 'this tactic seems to be working.'

According to this EU official, 'Hungary's veto is taken into account - and quickly ignored.'

Another diplomat stated: 'After March 6, there is no doubt that there is a divergence with one member state. The goal should always be achieved with the consent of all 27 countries - if that is not possible, we move forward with 26.'

The EU also emphasizes that Orban has chosen a path of isolation and illiberal democracy, which contradicts the obvious interests of the EU and Hungary itself.

Another diplomat said: 'He has had many opportunities and has rejected extended hands.'

According to him, the security of Europe is an extremely serious problem to 'negotiate with a person who sees things completely differently than everyone else.'

He added: 'If he thinks he can do it better alone, I don’t believe many will try to stop him.'

It should be noted that Bloomberg mentioned two EU countries that are blocking military assistance to Ukraine.
