France lost defense due to Trump's victory
The French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barro said that Europe lost its defense capability after Trump's victory and must quickly respond to several serious challenges to avoid becoming a 'museum exhibit'.
The Minister believes that Europe needs to expand its capabilities in line with military, industrial and commercial needs.
'We must prevent a future where Europe becomes an aging and dependent continent. Currently, 80% of the weapons and military equipment used by European armies come from other countries. This is an unacceptable dependency,' Barro noted.
Barro emphasized that Europe decisively opposes the promised increase in tariffs on European goods by Trump and the possibility of a trade war.
'Imposing tariffs on the EU, our main partner, would be a historic mistake. This will harm numerous American companies operating in Europe. But we will vigorously defend our agricultural, industrial, commercial, and technological interests against the US, China, and any other country,' the Minister stressed.
He also expressed concern about the possible appointment of Elon Musk to a position in the new US administration.
'We hope he will not do to American democracy what he did to Twitter,' Barro said.
