Electrocuted and beaten with pipes. Azov fighter sentenced to 20 years in prison in Russia recounts torture in captivity.

Oleksandr Maksymchuk, a Ukrainian prisoner of war from the 'Azov' battalion, spoke about the horrific torture he endured in the SIZO-2 prison in Taganrog. He was beaten, tortured with electric shocks, and hung upside down to force him to confess to a crime. Maksymchuk also mentioned meeting a Russian citizen who confirmed his support for Ukraine. After receiving his sentence, Maksymchuk stated that he had already gotten used to the conditions of captivity and did not wish to know what would happen to him in the future.
The Ukrainian soldier was captured by Russian forces in May 2022 and has since been held in various prisons. He was brought to court hearings via video conference, but several times he requested to be personally brought to court. He was recently sentenced to 20 years in a strict regime prison. It is worth noting that Russian authorities often commit horrific crimes against Ukrainian prisoners in an attempt to conceal the torture.
