The most popular query on the Cambridge Dictionary website in 2024 was the word 'manifest'. It describes the practice of confidently achieving goals through visualization and affirmations.
This concept became especially popular during the pandemic, when social media was flooded with advice on financial success and career development from 'manifestation influencers'.
This is the tenth consecutive year that the Cambridge Dictionary has chosen a word of the year. In 2023, that word was 'hallucinate'.
The word 'brat' was also chosen as the word of the year by the Collins English Dictionary. It is used to describe a person who displays confidence, independence, and enjoys life.
