Admiral Tony Radakin, the Chief of the Defence Staff of the United Kingdom, claims that the world is entering a 'third nuclear age', and the threat from China is becoming serious for the West. The nuclear stability that was achieved after the Cold War is gradually coming to an end.
Admiral Tony Radakin particularly highlighted the threats posed by Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea. However, he stressed that China is especially concerning for the USA. China is expanding its nuclear arsenal at a faster pace than other countries and plans to match the United States and Russia by 2030.
The Admiral explained that the first nuclear age was characterized by the Cold War, when two opposing forces restrained each other. The second age was marked by disarmament efforts and counter-proliferation of nuclear weapons. However, the current situation is much more complex.
The Admiral emphasized that Russia poses a threat with the tactical use of nuclear weapons, conducts large-scale nuclear exercises, and simulates attacks on NATO countries. This is done to compel the West to take measures to maintain stability. The growth of China's nuclear capability is a double challenge for the United States. Iran also raises concerns with its unwillingness to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency. The ballistic missile program of North Korea and its unstable behavior reflect regional and global threats.
