Drug Smuggling in Odesa Region — What They Tried to Bring into Ukraine.


A 44-year-old woman from Cherkasy tried to illegally import potent medical drugs into Ukraine. However, she was caught by border guards in Odesa, and now faces imprisonment.
According to the Southern Regional Department of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the woman tried to bring in the medical drug 'Westsleep' in the quantity of 130 pills through the 'Palanka-Mayaki-Udobne' checkpoint as a passenger of a scheduled bus. The drug contains potent medicinal substances, and its importation without permission is prohibited in Ukraine.
Details of the Case
The inspection group discovered the drugs that the woman had hidden among her personal belongings and seized them. It was also revealed that this is not the first case of the woman’s medical fraud - last year she was already convicted for smuggling similar drugs.
What Punishment Is Imposed
The woman has been charged with smuggling and transporting potent substances, for which she could face 5 to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
