In Beijing, Xi Jinping, the leader of the People's Republic of China, met with the heads of the largest companies in China.
Particular attention was drawn to Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba, who had previously fallen from grace due to his remarks about China's financial system. This meeting is considered a sign of a possible review of Beijing's policy regarding private business after many years of restrictions on tech companies.
The meeting included leaders of leading tech corporations such as Huawei, Meituan, Tencent, and CATL. This indicates the beginning of a new stage in the relationship between the government and the private sector in China.
Xi noted that China has natural advantages in developing new industries due to its governance and market scale. He urged private entrepreneurs to showcase their talent during this period.
'Now is the Time when most private businesses and entrepreneurs need to showcase their talent,' Xi said.
Xi initiated a campaign to strengthen state control over private industry, particularly in the tech sector. However, due to the economic downturn caused by the housing crisis, low consumption, and youth unemployment, the authorities are ready to engage in dialogue with business.
The meeting with Jack Ma was closely watched, as he had previously been the subject of regulatory pressure. The presence of company leaders at this level is seen as a sign of support from the authorities.
In recent years, China's tech sector has faced significant regulatory pressure, leading to a decrease in investment and consumer confidence. Experts, however, are cautious in their assessments regarding a possible easing of state control over private business following this meeting.
