Former world boxing champion Vasyl Lomachenko expressed his support for Metropolitan Onufriy after his Ukrainian citizenship was terminated. In his Facebook post, Lomachenko wrote that they can take away the passport, but they cannot take away faith and love.

«A Man can have his passport taken away, have everything earthly taken from him, but Love and Faith cannot be taken away! Dear Blessed Metropolitan Onufriy – a person whom the Lord has placed in his position for the balance of the fight against enemies!»

It is worth noting that Onufriy lost his Ukrainian citizenship because in 2002 he received a Russian passport. This information was discovered recently. He did not inform Ukrainian authorities about the possession of a second passport but continued to use his Ukrainian citizenship.

Reaction of the UOC to the investigation

After it became known that some clergymen of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church have Russian passports, the community received shocking information. The Primate of the UOC MP, Metropolitan Ionafan of Tulchin, and Bishop Serhiy of Ladyzhyn were also among those who obtained Russian citizenship.
