Ukraine and Russia agreed on exchanges of prisoners of war

Ukraine and Russia reached a preliminary agreement on systematic exchanges of prisoners of war until 2025. The main priority is the return of Ukrainians who are in critical condition or have sustained serious injuries. This was reported by Dmytro Lubinets, the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, in an interview with the 'Rada' television channel.

Ukraine is concerned that Russia may not fulfill the terms of the agreement but hopes for a positive outcome.

Packages with items for prisoners of war

An agreement has also been reached to provide packages with items for Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilian hostages through the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Release from captivity in 2024

On December 30, 2024, the 59th exchange of prisoners took place, resulting in the release of 187 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and two civilians. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 1,358 Ukrainians have been released, and the total number of those freed amounts to 3,956.
