Macron: Zelensky can represent Ukraine at the negotiations

French President Emmanuel Macron stressed that only Volodymyr Zelensky, as the President of Ukraine, has the right to negotiate on behalf of his country. He warned that accepting 'a peace that is a capitulation' would be bad news for everyone, including the USA. Macron stated this in his interview at the Élysée Palace.

According to him, the only question now is whether President Putin is sincere and willing to agree to a ceasefire. After that, Ukrainians will decide how to negotiate with Russia. Macron emphasized the need for everyone to remain vigilant.

The French leader also expressed the opinion that Europe should take more responsibility for its security and reduce dependence on the USA and China. He called Trump's return to the White House a push for the EU to invest in the development of defense, economy, and technology.

Macron noted that Europe must accelerate its development and achieve its set goals. However, the restoration of old structures aimed at financial and monetary cooperation could lead to the EU's failure.

Compared to other European leaders, Macron showed greater calm regarding Trump's negotiations with Putin about ending the war in Ukraine. He stressed that everyone should play their role in reaching agreements.

According to Macron, the USA must take the initiative and 'restart this dialogue,' as Trump introduced 'an element of strategic disruption.' In addition, Zelensky must discuss issues of territorial integrity and sovereignty, while European countries should discuss security guarantees and security frameworks for the entire region.
