Millions of Ukrainians suffer from food shortages - UN.

More than five million Ukrainians are facing food shortages, particularly in frontline areas. This was reported citing a report from the World Food Programme (WFP), published by 'Glavcom'.

According to the report, millions of people are forced to take extreme measures, such as forgoing food for their children or taking out loans to purchase essential goods.

Despite the food assistance provided, more than half of the residents of Kherson region face severe food shortages. Additionally, two out of every five people in Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions are facing hunger issues.

Richard Ragan, WFP director in Ukraine, emphasized that humanitarian aid remains critically important for millions of people.

According to WFP data, 72% of food aid recipients are forced to cut food expenditures, buy less nutritious products, skip meals, or take loans to feed their families.

In areas adjacent to the frontline, supply of goods is complicated by infrastructure destruction and disrupted logistics chains. Moreover, earning opportunities are extremely limited.

The WFP stated: 'Even where shops operate and necessary goods are available, many families cannot afford proper nutrition. Prices for staple products have risen by 25% over the past year, and some vegetables have even doubled in price.'

According to the World Health Organization, almost half of Ukrainians have mental health issues due to the war. Non-communicable diseases account for 84% of deaths in the country. This was reported by 'Glavcom' citing a WHO report.

As of October 2024, 68% of Ukrainians reported a deterioration in their health compared to the period before the full-scale war began.

It is known that mental health issues globally have reached epidemic proportions. This is reported by the Financial Times, citing various studies, including a WHO assessment. According to a Deloitte study, mental health issues are particularly prevalent among businesspeople.
