US Treasury Accuses China of Massive Cyber Attack.

The US Department of the Treasury has informed Congress about a malicious attack from China on the institution's workstations.
According to CNN, hackers used stolen keys to gain access to certain workstations within the Treasury and obtained unclassified documents.
'Based on the available indicators, the incident was carried out by a state-sponsored Chinese adversary, posing a persistent threat of heightened complexity (Advanced Persistent Threat, APT),' wrote Aditi Ghardikar, assistant secretary of the US Treasury, in a letter to lawmakers.
It has not been disclosed how many workstations were compromised or which specific documents the hackers obtained. However, officials indicated that there is currently no ongoing threat.
The US Department of the Treasury emphasized that they take all threats to their systems and stored data very seriously.
'Over the past four years, the Treasury has significantly strengthened its cybersecurity measures, and we continue to collaborate with private and public partners to protect our financial system from threats,' officials stated.
Currently, Treasury officials are working with law enforcement and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to investigate this incident.
According to the BBC, the Treasury learned of the cyber attack from BeyondTrust. China denied any involvement in the breach, claiming that they have always opposed hacking and do not support the dissemination of false information about China for political purposes.
