The British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that Europe must play a greater role in ensuring the security of Ukraine and is prepared to send peacekeeping forces to support any peace agreement regarding Ukraine. This indicates a growing awareness among European countries of the need to act in this direction. Starmer's statements are prompted by Washington's demands for Europe to stop relying on the US for defense matters.

The agency points out that providing peacekeeping forces by European countries may become a burden on their armies, which have limited resources after supplying Ukraine and years of relative peace. There are also complex questions regarding the financing of such efforts in countries where public finances are already under pressure.

Germany has stated that it will not shy away from providing ground troops in Ukraine, while Sweden is also considering the possibility of sending its peacekeepers. Poland, on the other hand, promises to provide logistical and physical assistance, but not troops.

US President Donald Trump surprised Ukraine and European allies by calling Russian President Vladimir Putin without warning to discuss the war in Ukraine, and did not consult with them.

On Tuesday, high-level talks between US and Russian officials will take place in Saudi Arabia, which will be the most important in many years. The US delegation will include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff. Russia will be represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has refused to participate in the talks in Saudi Arabia, stating that any agreements regarding Ukraine without its participation will be ineffective. Trump's envoy on Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, stated that Europe will have no place at the negotiating table.

The European Union has discussed the situation in Ukraine numerous times, but has been unable to take any initiatives to end the war due to resistance from Russia.
