The disappearance of ex-footballer Roman Maksymiuk during hostilities
Ex-footballer Roman Maksymiuk, who played for the national team of Ukraine and Kyiv's 'Dynamo', has gone missing at the front while carrying out a combat mission. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing 'Champion'.
The last Time Maksymiuk was online was on January 30, 2025. He called his wife Vira and informed her that he was at the positions in the Pokrovsk direction and might not have communication for a long time. His wife was very upset as they communicated almost every day.
Vira contacted the department of Roman's unit responsible for family connections. Just on Monday, she received assurance that her husband continues to fulfill his military duty, the unit is engaged in heavy battles, and there is no communication with him.
Eventually, it turned out that Roman had been classified as missing under unusual circumstances. Vira received a message from the military enlistment office about the need to come to the Territorial Coordination Center and write a declaration of disappearance. Their daughter Dasha also provided DNA samples.
According to media reports, the unit to which Maksymiuk belongs is trying to break out of encirclement.
Roman Maksymiuk, who was born in the village of Bytkiv in Ivano-Frankivsk region, played for St. Petersburg's 'Zenit' from 1998 to 1999, winning the Russian Cup in 1999. He then played for Kyiv's 'Dynamo', 'Dnipro', 'Volyn', and 'Chornomorets', as well as appearing in 5 matches for the national team of Ukraine. After retiring, Maksymiuk lived in Lutsk.
In September 2024, Roman Maksymiuk stated: 'The full-scale invasion of the Russians has radically changed my consciousness. I do not want to have anything to do with the Russians. I do not want my children and grandchildren to have anything to do with them. We must convey the message that the Russians threaten our existence from generation to generation.'
Currently, the accounting of losses of Russian occupiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is ongoing.
