Mass fish death recorded in Odesa region: what is known.


A mass death of silver crucian carp occurred in the Dniester estuary. This was reported by the State Agency of Melioration and Fisheries of Ukraine.
On March 20, employees of the Odesa fish protection patrol discovered a mass fish death in the Dniester estuary near the village of Vypasne in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district.
At the scene, it was found that the fish death occurred in an area of about 160 m². There were about 100 dead crucians per meter of the shoreline, measuring from 17 to 35 cm.
A significant amount of fish was also found that could not be accurately counted due to its presence in the water.
To determine the causes of death, water samples were taken, which will be subjected to laboratory research by employees of the State Ecological Inspection of the Southwestern District. Odesa fish protection patrols continue to monitor the situation at the water body.
From February 15 to March 31, there is a ban on catching pike in all fishery water bodies in Ukraine, including Kyiv region, due to spawning. This was reported by the press service of the State Ecological Inspection of the Capital District. Enhanced control over fish catches and the legality of the sale of biological resources is being carried out.
Also, in the Haisyn district of Vinnytsia region, a case of poaching was discovered, which caused almost 1.7 million UAH worth of damage to the ecosystem. On January 23, police noticed three residents of the Haisyn district at the Ladyzhyn reservoir who were illegally fishing.
At the end of April, a fisherman in Kyiv region received a fine of 170,000 UAH for illegal catching of zanders.
