The best result in history. Geraskevych stopped just short of a world championship medal.


Two Ukrainians participated for the first Time in the decisive round of the 2025 World Skeleton Championship, and both set personal records at the tournament.
On the first day of the competition, leader Vladislav Geraskevych finished in second place, trailing by 1.48 seconds after two runs.
17-year-old Yaroslav Lavrenyuk, competing in world championships for the second time, placed 21st after the first day and had a chance to improve on his fourth run.
How the Ukrainians performed
In the third run, Geraskevych improved his previous results, showing the fourth-best time among all participants with a time of 53.38 seconds. This allowed him to rise to seventh place before the final run.
Lavrenyuk also set his personal record on the Lake Placid track, demonstrating a time of 54.33 seconds. He managed to maintain his 21st position and participate in the fourth run.
In the fourth run, Lavrenyuk improved his time, showing a result of 54.26 seconds. He was able to hold on to 21st place and set a new personal record at the championship.
Geraskevych also set a personal record, finishing fourth with a time of 53.61 seconds and rising to fourth place in the overall standings, surpassing the reigning Olympic champion.
Geraskevych was just 0.08 seconds short of the podium occupied by German Axel Jungk. The gold was won by British athlete Matt Weston, who outpaced the rest of the competitors by almost 2 seconds.
This championship became Geraskevych's best result at world championships, bringing him closer to a medal. His record also improved in the overall World Cup standings, where he finished seventh this year.
