Germany will finance the reconstruction of Syria.

The Federal Government of Germany will allocate 60 million euros for aid projects in Syria. The money will not be given directly to the Syrian authorities. The Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, Svenja Schulze, stated that the humanitarian situation in Syria after the fall of the Assad regime is catastrophic. About 90% of the population lives in unsatisfactory conditions, depends on humanitarian aid, and partially suffers from the destruction of infrastructure during the war.
Under the leadership of Berlin, reconstruction projects in Syria will be implemented through non-governmental and international organizations. The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) will receive 25 million euros for the repair of schools and assistance to children affected by the war. Funds will also be directed to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support displaced persons and to the UN fund that supports Syrian organizations for the protection of women's rights. The remaining funds will be allocated to local non-governmental organizations for the reconciliation of various population groups.
Expectations and Support
According to Schulze, Berlin cannot predict what will happen in Syria with the transfer of power to the Islamist group 'Hayat Tahrir al-Sham' (HTS). However, she emphasized that there is a possibility of positive development, and the German government will do everything possible to support this process. Schulze also noted that it is important to create an education system that is free from ideology, discrimination, and isolation. In the event of a positive development of the situation, Germany is ready to provide more assistance in other areas.
