In the first half of 2025, 86,795 infants were born in Ukraine. The Odesa region ranked fourth in the number of newborns, surpassed only by Kyiv, Lviv region, and Dnipropetrovsk region. This was reported by journalists from the Opendatabot publication.

The highest number of newborns is recorded in Kyiv (9,947). Lviv region ranks second (8,282), and Dnipropetrovsk region is third (6,670). The Odesa region occupies fourth place with 6,177 newborns, while Kyiv region ranks fifth with 5,236 infants.

In the regions bordering the front line, the number of births is lower. In Donetsk region, the birth rate has decreased by almost half (-47%), in Kherson region - by 11%, and in Chernihiv region - by 10%. Overall, over the past ten years, the birth rate in Ukraine has decreased by 2.2 times.

Mortality in Ukraine

In the first half of the year, 249,002 people died in Ukraine. Currently, for every newborn, there are three deaths. Dnipropetrovsk region leads in the number of deaths with 27,120 deceased. The second place is taken by Kyiv with 18,114 deaths, and Kharkiv region is in third place with 17,694. The Odesa region is fourth with 16,251 deaths, and Lviv region is fifth with 15,948 deaths.

It should be noted that Odesa region also ranks 4th in terms of quality of life in Ukraine, and Ukrainians are among the wealthiest emigrants in the USA.

In the first half of 2025, the number of newborns in Ukraine increased, but at the same Time, there is a decrease in the birth rate over the last ten years. The highest number of births was recorded in Kyiv, while the highest number of deaths occurred in Dnipropetrovsk region. Compared to other regions, Odesa region also has a high quality of life, and Ukrainians are represented in the ranking of the wealthiest emigrants in the USA.
