UN increased cash payments for Ukrainians: who will receive 10,800 hryvnias.

UNHCR increased the amount of payments for those affected by hostilities
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has announced an increase in the amount of payments for Ukrainians affected by hostilities. According to the announcement on the UNHCR website, starting from October 1, vulnerable segments of the population will receive 3,600 hryvnias for each household member, which is an increase from the previous amount of 2,200 hryvnias. This money is intended for urgent needs such as temporary housing, food, and personal hygiene.
Data collection work for receiving multipurpose cash assistance from UNHCR began on January 13, 2025. People will be able to apply for assistance in ten cities of Ukraine, including Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Kryvyi Rih, Kropyvnytskyi, Mykolayiv, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv.
Assistance can be provided to internally displaced persons as well as those who have returned to their permanent residence, including people who returned from abroad. The total amount of assistance is 10,800 hryvnias per person and is provided for three months (3,600 hryvnias per month).
Eligibility criteria for receiving assistance include certain requirements. The applicant must not receive payments from other international organizations, the income per family member must be less than 5,400 hryvnias, and the family must belong to one of the vulnerable categories, such as single-parent families with children under 18, families with elderly individuals (55 years and older), or families with people with disabilities or chronic illnesses.
'If you received assistance in the amount of 2,220 UAH/person/month from another agency or UN humanitarian organization, you may be denied financial assistance from UNHCR,' the UNHCR website states.
Those who have already provided their data for inclusion in the UNHCR cash assistance program will receive their payments provided that they have not received assistance from other organizations.
The change in the order of social assistance payments is also relevant in Ukraine.
Analysis
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) announced an increase in assistance for Ukrainians who have been affected by hostilities. The increase in payments by 1,400 hryvnias per household member is positive news for affected citizens, as it will allow them to meet urgent needs such as housing, food, and hygiene products. Additional information about the possibility of receiving assistance from UNHCR in ten cities of Ukraine provides an opportunity for more people to seek help. The three-month assistance program ensures stability and guarantees financial support for affected citizens during this period. However, it is worth considering that not all citizens who meet the requirements will be able to receive assistance, as the number of applications may exceed funding volumes.
