The former USSR has been shifting the clocks every year due to specific reasons. Firstly, this tradition helps regulate Time zones and aligns with the biological calendar time. Secondly, it also contributes to energy savings. The idea of changing the clocks was first introduced in 1784 by the US ambassador to France, Benjamin Franklin. He calculated that adjusting the clocks could help save energy since the workday would take place in daylight. Since then, changing the clocks has become a practice in many countries around the world. Ukraine joined this practice in 1981, and the then-government approved a resolution that defines the procedure for shifting the clock hands. Since then, Ukrainians have changed their clocks twice a year – in spring one hour forward and in autumn one hour back. It is worth noting that the transition to summer and winter time has its pros and cons. On one hand, it helps save energy, but on the other hand, it can negatively affect people's health due to the readjustment of biological rhythms in the body. All these factors are considered in discussions about abolishing clock changes, but a decision on this issue has not yet been made. The last clock change in Ukraine will take place from March 29 to 30, 2025.
