PFU showed how pensions of Ukrainians changed in hryvnias and dollars.

The Pension Fund of Ukraine published fresh data on the size of pensions in the country as of January 1, 2025. According to official information, the average pension in Ukraine amounted to 5789 hryvnias, which is 7.5% more than a year ago.

However, due to the increase in the dollar exchange rate by 10.6% during this period, the value of the pension in dollar equivalent has decreased to 138 dollars.

The historical analysis shows impressive changes in the size of pension payments. According to the State Statistics Service and the Pension Fund, since 1997 the average pension has increased 111 times - from 52 hryvnias to the current 5789 hryvnias. At the same Time, the dollar exchange rate has increased 22 times during this period, reaching 42 hryvnias per dollar compared to 1.9 hryvnias in 1997.

Particularly noticeable was the increase in pensions in 2004. 'That year, pensions practically doubled - from 34 to 60 dollars,' it is noted in the report. However, after the beginning of Russian aggression in 2014, there was a significant decrease in pensions in dollar equivalent - from 191 to 100 dollars.

Pensioners in Ukraine

At the beginning of 2025, there are 10.3 million pensioners in Ukraine, 2.8 million of whom continue to work. It is noted that working pensioners receive an average of 6302.76 hryvnias, which significantly exceeds the general indicator.

In 2024, their payments increased by 11.3% (or by 641.71 hryvnias), while pensions of non-working pensioners increased by 7.5% (403.8 hryvnias).

The full occupation of Russia in 2022 had almost no impact on the size of pension payments, which remained stable during this period.

It is also worth recalling the pension without work experience: conditions for appointment and new requirements from 2025.
