Such statements represent a serious violation of the principles of independence for nations and could set an example for authoritarian regimes that will also attempt to justify their ambitions in the name of 'national security'. What Trump sees as a necessity for the US becomes a gift for Russia and China, who also have their own plans regarding other countries.
