The renowned sculptor, winner of the Shevchenko Prize, Yaroslav Motyka has passed away.


Yaroslav Motyka has departed to eternity - a prominent author of memorial signs and monuments in Ukraine. This was reported by the head of the Lviv OVA, Maksym Kozytskyi.
Yaroslav Motyka died at the age of 82.
Who is Yaroslav Motyka?
Yaroslav Motyka was born in 1943 in the village of Staromishchyna in the Ternopil region. He graduated from the Lviv Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts and became a monumental sculptor.
Motyka is the author of many monuments in Lviv region and throughout Ukraine. His well-known works include the garden-park figure 'Lily' in Lviv, the monument to Colonel Yevhen Konovalets in Zhovkva, the monument to Markiyan Shashkevych in the village of Nestanychi, the sculpture of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Busk, and the monument for the 1000th anniversary of the baptism of Ukraine-Rus in Belgium.
In 1972, Yaroslav Motyka received the Taras Shevchenko state prize. He also created a gallery of portraits of famous Ukrainians.
