Returned from Sweden to defend Ukraine. Let's remember Stepan Kernitsky..


Every day at 9 a.m., Ukrainians honor the memory of all those whose lives were taken by the Russian-Ukrainian war. Today we will remember Stepan Kernitsky.
The life of Stepan Kernitsky, who fought against the occupiers as part of the 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Western Operational Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was cut short on February 17, 2025.
Stepan Kernitsky was born on January 9, 1981, in Lviv. He studied at Lviv Secondary School No. 7 of the Lviv City Council, and then entered the Communal Institution of the Lviv Regional Council 'Lviv Lyceum for Enhanced Military-Physical Training named after the Heroes of Kruty.'
For the last 10 years, he lived and worked in the construction industry in the Kingdom of Sweden. Everyone knew that he was a kind and generous person.
After the start of the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine, Stepan returned to his homeland and together with his brother began to defend Ukraine from the Russian invaders. He served in the guard company and then carried out combat missions in Donetsk and Kherson regions in the ranks of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Daniel.
Recently, he fought against the occupiers as part of the 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Western Operational Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
His life ended on February 17, 2025. The funeral took place on February 24 at the Garrison Church of Saints Peter and Paul. After the city-wide farewell ceremony in Rynok Square, Stepan Kernitsky was buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.
He is survived by his son, wife, father, and brother with family.

We remember those who died at the hands of Russian invaders, light candles of remembrance, and bow our heads in sorrow during the nationwide minute of silence, honoring the citizens of Ukraine who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the state: military, civilians, and children - all those who died in the fight against Russian occupiers and as a result of the attack of hostile troops on Ukrainian cities and villages.
