Russian President Vladimir Putin demands that all countries stop supplying weapons to Ukraine during the ceasefire period proposed by US President Donald Trump.
Russian President Vladimir Putin demands that all countries stop arms deliveries to Ukraine during the ceasefire period proposed by US President Donald Trump.
This was reported by Bloomberg.
Putin and Trump plan to talk on the phone on Tuesday about ending the war in Ukraine. They want to agree on a 30-day ceasefire, which Kyiv has already accepted. The conversation is set to take place between 4 PM and 6 PM Moscow Time, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
Last week, Putin met with a representative of Trump and stated that halting the supply of weapons is the main condition for the ceasefire. This was told by a high-ranking European official and three sources in Moscow.
Russia's primary demand is for the US to stop helping Ukraine with weapons, but overall it is trying to halt all supplies.
Europe is very unwilling to agree to such a Russian demand. European officials explain this by stating that during the ceasefire, Russia could obtain new weapons, while Ukraine would not.
Putin says he generally supports the US proposal for a ceasefire but insists on his conditions. He is likely to agree to a temporary halt in hostilities but wants his demands to be taken into account.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom and the European Union are trying to quickly provide Ukraine with new military aid.
The US and Ukraine announced a ceasefire plan last week after negotiations in Saudi Arabia. The US also stated that it would resume weapon supplies and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, which had been paused for a week to push Ukraine towards negotiations.
Trump wants to meet with Putin to end the war, which has been ongoing for three years and has become the largest conflict in Europe since World War II. The ceasefire would be the first step towards a comprehensive peace treaty.
Also, let us remind you that Trump is ready to impose sanctions against Russia if the conversation with Putin is not successful.
