The Parliament approved the draft law regarding NABU and SAP.

The Ukrainian parliament voted on Tuesday, July 22, in favor of draft law No. 12414. This document stipulates that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office will be under the control of the Attorney General.
Who will now manage NABU and SAP?
'The Parliament voted overall for No. 12414 and effectively abolished the entire independence of NABU and SAP,' it is stated in the announcement.
263 deputies voted for the draft law in a flexible manner. According to Yaroslav Zheleznyak, some parliamentarians blocked the work and did not express support for 'this bad act.'
'But I am very uncomfortable and ashamed for the people in the room who, over six years of the status of people's deputies, have sunk to this level', he noted.
Oleksiy Honcharenko stated that the draft law could not be blocked since the parliament took the right to submit the appropriate proposal.
Next, the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, must immediately sign this law and send it to the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, for approval.
It is noted that the amendments to draft law No. 12414 provide for the complete subordination of SAP and NABU to the Attorney General.
Earlier, the Security Service of Ukraine conducted searches among NABU employees as part of neutralizing Russian influence on the bureau. There was also a check in SAP regarding compliance with state secrets laws.
As a result of the approval of draft law No. 12414, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office become subordinate to the Attorney General, which may put an end to their independence and activities in the fight against corruption in Ukraine.
