Fewer Jobs for Graduates: What is Happening in the Labor Market.


According to a study, 75% of companies have problems hiring recent graduates due to their lack of motivation, communication skills, and professionalism.
53% of recruitment specialists believe that Generation Z graduates do not possess a sufficiently high level of professionalism and poorly adapt to the work environment. Some of the most common problems include weak work ethics (55%) and negative attitudes towards criticism (54%), reports Intelligent.
Additionally, every fifth recruitment manager reports that graduates often cannot cope with the workload, are late for work, and show unprofessionalism. This creates additional difficulties for companies trying to form productive teams with young employees.
Due to the insufficient preparation of new employees, 60% of companies were forced to lay off recent graduates in 2024. Additionally, 79% of employers included unsuccessful beginners in performance improvement plans to help them adapt to job requirements. However, this does not always lead to success. Employers are also implementing office etiquette training: 54% of companies offer such a course, and 48% make it mandatory for all new employees.
Despite the existing problems, most companies (84%) plan to continue hiring recent graduates in 2025. However, some (16%) have doubts about this, citing past negative experiences with young employees and high staff turnover.
The key factors that would make employers more positive towards new graduates are initiative (57%), a positive attitude towards work (56%), and strong work ethics (54%). Punctuality and adaptability (53%) are also important for the successful integration of young professionals into the work environment.
