Repatriation of severely wounded and seriously ill prisoners of war in Ukraine
On January 15, Ukraine and the Russian Federation carried out the repatriation of severely wounded and seriously ill prisoners of war according to the Geneva Convention. The Security Service published a video of the release of 25 Ukrainians from captivity in Russia.
Among the repatriated individuals are soldiers, sailors, and sergeants who defended the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk directions, as well as the city of Mariupol, including Azovstal. Also among them is a civilian who was captured in Kyiv region and held by the Russians.

The returned servicemen will receive necessary treatment and rehabilitation. Among them are representatives of the National Guard, Armed Forces of Ukraine (including Territorial Defense), Navy, and the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
We recall that on January 15, with the mediation of the United Arab Emirates, Ukraine freed 25 Ukrainians from Russian captivity.
It is also worth mentioning that on December 30, 2024, Ukraine brought home 189 Ukrainians from Russian captivity, including servicemen from various fronts. Among the released were soldiers, sergeants, and officers. Those released included national guardsmen, border guards, territorial defenders, military sailors, and soldiers of the Armed Forces, as well as two civilians who were captured in Mariupol.
