Xi Jinping reiterated the promise of "reunification" with Taiwan - CNN.


Chinese leader Xi Jinping emphasized his goal of "full return" of Taiwan during a charity banquet. He stated that it is an "irreversible trend" and that no one can stop the course of history. Furthermore, Xi called for the deepening of economic and cultural exchanges with the Taiwan Strait, as well as promoting "spiritual harmony among compatriots on both sides." He also called to "resolutely oppose separatist activities aimed at Taiwan independence."
Beijing and Taipei are in a tense situation regarding the status of Taiwan, which China considers its territory. The leaders of the Chinese Communist Party have vowed to gain control of the island, not excluding the use of force if necessary. It has also become a key issue in China's relations with the United States, which supports Taiwan's independence and is committed to providing it with arms for self-defense.
