Scandal in Kozyatyn: bus driver refused to let the mother of a fallen defender ride

A resident of Kozyatyn named Oksana regularly visits the neighboring community where her son, a fallen defender, is buried. One Time, she witnessed a bus driver refusing to transport her, despite her right to a discounted fare. The woman did not have time to withdraw cash before the trip, making her journey impossible.

The city's veterans organized a meeting with the carrier and the bus driver to resolve the situation. The driver had previously refused to take passengers entitled to discounts, including Oksana's son under earlier circumstances.

'Even my son, when he came to visit us, before the war started, when we lived in Kozyatyn, and the older daughter in Glukhivtsi, Dima would occasionally go to Glukhivtsi to bring the little child to kindergarten and then pick her up,' Oksana said. 'And a few times he also ran into this driver, Uncle Vova. And he replied to him with shouts: 'I will not take passengers entitled to discounted fares.'

During the meeting, the carrier Vitaliy apologized to the mother of the fallen soldier, stating that he cannot control every driver. However, he has all the necessary documents for discounted fares and is responsible for the actions of his subordinates.

'You apologize to me, meanwhile the driver stands next to me and has been trying to apologize for ten minutes, so it looks like he wants to but can't,' Oksana said. 'This is unacceptable. If I were the driver, I would step out, hug that man or that man and simply say: I’m sorry, it won’t happen again. I want the driver on this route to be replaced.'

As a result, the driver did apologize to Oksana. The veterans gave the carrier two weeks to suspend the driver from trips and find a replacement, otherwise they proposed to stop the bus.

Additionally, it turned out that the state does not reimburse the carrier for the expenses incurred for the discounted fare of passengers.

Analysis:

This news highlights the problem of drivers refusing to transport passengers entitled to discounts, particularly the mothers of fallen servicemen. The meeting between the veterans and the carrier underscored the importance of adhering to the law and the rights of passengers. The measures taken after the conflict show that the public and authorities are addressing such issues and seeking compromise solutions.
