American M1 Abrams tanks need modernization as they were found to be unprotected against attacks from Russian drones, anti-tank missiles, and other explosives. Therefore, they will receive steel frames to protect them from these threats. The Bradley IFV models will receive similar modernization.
"Protective screens for combat vehicles such as Abrams and Bradley are necessary to preserve not only expensive equipment but also the lives of soldiers on the battlefield," said a serviceman of the 47th OMBR.
This modernization is implemented through the "Steel Front" initiative. It involves the installation of protective turret screens around the combat vehicles.
"Usually, drones try to stop the vehicle or hit the engine or turret of the tank. This makes them easy prey for artillery or other drones," said the chief operating officer of the Metinvest group of companies, Oleksandr Myronenko.
Even if the screen suffers damage from one drone, it still provides protection for the tank and increases its survivability by 35%.
