The statue depicted Gretzky with the Stanley Cup and was installed near the arena of the Edmonton Oilers hockey club. The club's executive vice president, Tim Shipton, announced an investigation into this act of vandalism.

Gretzky is criticized in Canada for his friendship with Donald Trump and his support for Trump's policies regarding Canada.

It is also worth noting that Gretzky attended Trump's inauguration wearing a cap with the slogan 'Make America Great Again'. Trump had previously suggested that Canada join the USA as the 51st state and even offered Gretzky the position of Prime Minister of Canada.

In early March, a petition appeared in Canada demanding to rename a street in Edmonton named after Gretzky.

Additionally, one Oilers fan initiated a petition to change the name of a highway that was named after Gretzky in 1999.

Gretzky holds the record for the most goals in NHL regular season history with 894 goals. He is also considered the greatest hockey player of all Time according to many hockey experts.

It should be noted that the Vancouver Auto Show canceled Tesla's participation due to safety concerns.

The organizers stated that they excluded Tesla from the auto show due to protests being held against it in Canada. Tesla owner Elon Musk is an ally of US President Donald Trump.
