An installation dedicated to Ukrainian athletes killed by Russia appeared in London.

An installation has been presented in London’s Parliament Square to honor the memory of Ukrainian athletes who died during the Russian aggression. This was announced by the Embassy of Ukraine in the United Kingdom.

«Since February 2022, the Russian war has claimed the lives of thousands of innocent Ukrainians, including 487 athletes. More than 4,000 athletes are still actively defending their country», – the embassy said.

This installation was opened with the participation of Ukrainian athletes, Minister of State for Europe Stephen Doughty, the Foreign Office, Ambassadors and Embassies of Germany, the USA, and France, as well as the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain. It displays the number "487", although the actual number of victims may be even higher. Around the installation, sports equipment is arranged to symbolize the disciplines of the deceased athletes and to remind of the terrible consequences of the war.

This year, Ukraine will be represented by only 140 athletes at the Olympic Games in Paris, which is the smallest number in the history of Ukrainian participation in the summer Olympics.

«This installation is a powerful reminder of the great losses Ukraine has suffered as a result of the war and a symbol of honor to those who sacrificed their lives for the future of their country. We express our gratitude to our partners for this symbolic initiative and urge the international community to pay attention to Russia’s brutality and humanitarian crimes, as well as to increase support for Ukraine in its fight for peace and justice», - the embassy said.
