The Armed Forces of Ukraine have established a unit to protect cultural heritage.

A new unit has been created in the army to protect cultural heritage

The Armed Forces of Ukraine announced the establishment of a new unit responsible for the protection of cultural heritage. This was reported by representatives of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.

The designated unit will consist of specialists with experience in culture, archaeology, history, and museum affairs.

The main task of this unit will be to coordinate activities for the preservation and protection of cultural heritage sites that may be affected during military operations.

The decision to create the new unit was made by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi in collaboration with Defense Minister Rustam Umerov. This idea was the result of lengthy consultations with international partners, the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, as well as the public.

Since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, 1,062 cultural heritage sites have been damaged or destroyed.

Additionally, the Russian Federation completely destroyed the authentic monument 'The Ancient City of Chersonesus Taurica and its Chora'.

An interesting fact is that more than 1.4 million exhibits are located in the museums of occupied Ukraine, which constitutes 12.6% of the total museum fund of the country.
