In Odesa, a man stole icons from a church - what he faces.

A resident of Odesa stole antique icons from a church with the intent to sell them. However, the police quickly found him, so he now faces imprisonment.
Case details
The perpetrator visited the church twice a day and, during the absence of the clergy, stole icons, which he then carried out in a bag. When the rector noticed the disappearance of the images, he contacted the police. Law enforcement identified the suspect, who had managed to sell one icon, but it was recovered. The thief kept another one at home.
The stolen icons were donated to the church by city patrons back in 1905. The value of these relics at auctions exceeds 5 thousand dollars. The exact value and historical significance of the icons will be determined after a special examination assigned by investigators.
What punishment is he facing
The perpetrator has been notified of suspicion under the article of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for up to 8 years of imprisonment.
We remind you that earlier we reported on other offenses in Odesa region, such as a stabbing during a feast and the sale of hunting permits.
In the gap between religious beliefs and the material interests of the perpetrator, this horrific situation arises, which can lead to serious consequences for him. It is important for law enforcement to respond timely to such events and stop violations of the law.
