In Ukraine, price markups for pharmacies are limited: how much will medicines cost.

The Ukrainian government is implementing new restrictions on the markup for pharmaceuticals in pharmacies. A maximum trade markup of 35% has been set for over-the-counter drugs, while a regressive scale applies to prescription medications.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this during a government meeting on Friday. According to him, suppliers can add no more than 8% to the wholesale price depending on the cost of the drug.

This decision was made at the direction of the National Security and Defense Council and aims to ensure transparent pricing and proper competition in the pharmaceutical market.

The government will increase control over the availability of medicines in hospitals. We are also continuing to work on improving the accessibility of drugs across the country. Currently, mobile pharmacies launched by the government last year serve 650 settlements that lack stationary pharmacy establishments.

Starting from July 2025, all pharmacies will be required to sign a contract with the National Health Service of Ukraine and dispense medicines under the 'Affordable Medicines' program.

It is planned that from March 1 of this year, prices for the 100 most popular pharmaceuticals in Ukraine will decrease by 30%, and for the rest of the medications - by 20%.
