A key rule for drivers has been changed in Ukraine: the main innovations of 2025.

From January 1, 2025, a new system of mandatory civil liability insurance for vehicle owners (OCTPL) will be introduced in Ukraine. These changes are designed to improve the protection of victims in traffic accidents, enhance the quality of insurance services, and bring the Ukrainian system closer to European standards, reports Parasol.ua.
Main changes in the auto insurance system:
The insurance payout limits have been increased - Maximum compensation for damage to life and health has risen from 320,000 to 500,000 hryvnias, and for property damage from 160,000 to 250,000 hryvnias. This will contribute to higher compensation for victims in traffic accidents.
A personalized calculation of policy cost has been introduced - Now, insurance companies have more options when forming policy prices. The cost of auto insurance will depend on individual indicators of the driver, such as accident history, driving experience, type of vehicle, and more. Drivers without accidents can expect discounts, while offenders will pay more.
The franchise has been abolished - From now on, car owners do not need to pay a part of the compensation themselves, which was previously a mandatory condition of many contracts.
The liability of insurers has been strengthened - Insurance companies are obliged to quickly and effectively review claims for payments and ensure quality customer service, adhering to new standards.
Payouts under the European Protocol have been increased - The maximum payout under the European Protocol is now equal to the maximum insurance amount, which simplifies the procedure for documenting minor traffic accidents.
Compensation without depreciation - Insurance companies will compensate the cost of new parts even in the case of some depreciation, improving conditions for car owners.
Repair payment directly at the service station - The insurance company will organize repairs at authorized service stations, simplifying the vehicle restoration process for its owner.
Mandatory direct damage settlement has been introduced - Now, after an accident, you can contact your insurance company directly, without contacting the insurer of the guilty party, which simplifies the procedure for obtaining compensation.
The new auto insurance system will provide a higher level of protection for victims due to increased insurance payouts and simplified compensation procedures. Additionally, pricing has become fairer, as the cost of the policy now corresponds to the real risks of the specific driver. There are also increased requirements for service quality, forcing insurance companies to improve their services.
Advice for drivers on choosing insurance:
- Analyze offers from different companies before signing a contract.
- Pay attention to additional services such as evacuation and legal assistance.
- Keep all documentation related to insurance.
- Carefully read the contract terms before signing.
We remind you that a large-scale reform of traffic rules in Europe will also take place, which will come into effect in 2025.
