Washington prepared a 'surprise' for Russian propagandists who arrived to cover the elections.
At the Washington airport, Russian journalists from the 'Izvestia' publication, who arrived in the USA to cover the presidential elections, were detained. This was reported by the spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
The journalists had all their equipment and communication devices confiscated and were subjected to a lengthy interrogation, despite having the necessary documentation. The 'Izvestia' team operator was denied entry and had his visa revoked.
Zakharova noted that the Russian embassy was not allowed to contact the journalist or assist him. Other propagandists were allowed entry but with restrictions.
The Russian Foreign Ministry threatened the USA with an 'appropriate reaction' due to this incident.
Recall that in September, the USA imposed sanctions on Russian television companies Russia Today, 'TV-News', and 'Eurasia', as well as against propagandist Dmitry Kiselyov.
Previously, the US State Department added 10 people and two organizations to the sanctions list as part of a 'coordinated response to Moscow's attempts to influence the 2024 US presidential elections'.
