The Government of Belgium and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have signed a financial agreement worth 9 million euros, which will be used to restore damaged energy infrastructure.
"This investment from Belgium is a crucial step towards the recovery of Ukraine's energy sector and strengthening its resilience. Together, we aim to ensure that Ukrainians have access to reliable energy sources, which is a necessary condition for overcoming the crisis and building a sustainable future," said UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine Jaco Cilliers.
According to the announcement, the partnership will focus on solving energy problems in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa. The plan is to restore backup power supply systems and improve local energy infrastructure to provide the population with heating, electricity, and clean water and reduce dependence on traditional fuel sources.
UNDP also mentioned that Belgium previously sent 1 million euros for demining in Ukraine.
