Ukraine has established age restrictions for those wishing to drive cars and motorcycles. The age restriction system is aimed at ensuring safety on the roads. The main points of this system were revealed in the magazine 'Hvylya'.
Passenger cars and motorcycles
The right to drive passenger cars in Ukraine can be obtained from the age of 18. This age category (category 'B') applies to passenger cars weighing up to 3.5 tons. However, there are exceptions for certain types of motorcycles. For example, motorcycles with an engine capacity of up to 125 cubic centimeters can be driven from the age of 16. And motorcycles without engine capacity restrictions are available from the age of 18.
Public and cargo transport
In Ukraine, increased age requirements are set for driving cargo vehicles. Category 'C1' (trucks from 3.5 to 7.5 tons) is available from the age of 19, category 'C' (cargo vehicles over 7.5 tons), category 'D1' (buses for 9-16 passengers), category 'D' (buses for more than 16 passengers), and category 'CE' (cargo road trains) are available from the age of 21.
Special requirements
To become a driver of public transport or a taxi, in addition to age restrictions, certain requirements must be met. For example, having at least 3 years of driving experience, undergoing regular medical examinations, and not having serious traffic violations in the past year.
Restrictions for novice drivers
Drivers with less than 2 years of experience have their own special restrictions. For example, it is prohibited to exceed the speed of 70 km/h, it is mandatory to display the sign 'Novice Driver', and towing other vehicles is prohibited.
