Ukraine is preparing for changes in electricity tariffs for households and businesses after signing a new Memorandum with the IMF. According to the document, tariffs need to be made more economically justified.

It is planned that the Cabinet of Ministers will develop a plan to increase electricity prices and a transparent tariff formation system within six months after the end of martial law. Special attention will be paid to socially vulnerable groups of the population.

Increase in electricity prices

Deputy Director of the Association of Energy and Natural Resources of Ukraine Andriy Zakrevskyi claims that the increase in electricity tariffs will lead to their alignment with European levels and the improvement of support systems for certain categories of citizens.

'As experience shows, targeted assistance to those who really need it costs the state less than populism with preferential prices.'

It is likely that electricity prices for households may gradually increase to 6 hryvnias per kilowatt-hour, but there is no specific date for the decision yet. The increase may happen soon or by 2026.

It should also be noted that Ukrainians can save on electricity, in particular by using it for heating and taking advantage of preferential tariffs.

Ukraine is preparing for an increase in electricity tariffs for both households and businesses as part of the agreement with the IMF. It is planned to justify electricity prices, make them more competitive, and implement a support system for socially vulnerable groups. The increase in tariffs may be gradual up to 6 hryvnias per kilowatt-hour, but specific details are still being clarified.
