25 million people will remain: Ukraine approved a demographic strategy until 2040.

The Government of Ukraine approved the Demographic Development Strategy of the country until 2040, which forecasts a significant reduction in population.
This is reported by 'Ukrayinska Pravda'.
According to estimates by the Institute of Demography and Social Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, by 2051 the population could decrease to 25.2 million people. This trend is related to the consequences of war, low birth rates, migration, and high mortality rates.
In 2001, the population of Ukraine was 48.5 million people, and by mid-2024 this number had decreased to 35.8 million. Of them, 31.1 million people lived in territories controlled by Ukraine.
The approved strategy is aimed at minimizing demographic risks and ensuring stable population reproduction, which is especially important in the context of war and post-war recovery. The main tasks of the document are creating favorable conditions for the birth and upbringing of children, ensuring economic stability of families, access to housing, quality healthcare, and employment.
Particular attention in the strategy is given to the need to return Ukrainians who left the country due to the war. This as a key factor for the restoration of the labor potential and demographic stability of the country.
Earlier, Deputy Director of the Institute of Demography Oleksandr Gladun explained how to avoid a demographic catastrophe in Ukraine.
