Every day at 9 AM, Ukrainians honor the memory of all those whose lives were taken by the Russian-Ukrainian war. Today, we will remember Oleksandr Polishchuk.

On December 19, 2024, as a result of multiple injuries and after a long treatment in the Kharkiv region, the defender of Ukraine, Oleksandr Mykolayovych Polishchuk, passed away. This was reported by the Shpanivka territorial community and the Rivne City Council.

Oleksandr Polishchuk was born on October 10, 1982, in the village of Velykyi Zhytyn, Rivne district, Rivne region. He graduated from a local lyceum, and then obtained a degree as a teacher of the Ukrainian language and history at the Rivne State Humanitarian University.

“Sasha worked in construction for the last few years. First abroad, and when the full-scale invasion began – in Ukraine. He did not serve in the army, had no military experience, but in February 2022, he voluntarily went to the recruitment center to protect his loved ones and the country. He was called up several times, went through a medical commission, but was told to wait... He was quite nervous about that. And in November 2023, he received his call,” says the hero's sister, Antonina.

Oleksandr served in Kharkiv region, lost many brothers-in-arms near Kupyansk, but did not lose his fighting spirit, though he acknowledged that it became harder morally every day. Cheerful, optimistic, sociable, and sincere, he longed to return home victorious, as his wife and two children, relatives, and friends were eagerly waiting for him.

“Sasha was injured in one of the battles: a shattered arm, shrapnel in his lungs and head... At that Time, his brothers-in-arms and quick evacuation saved him. He underwent treatment and rehabilitation, but these injuries kept reminding him of themselves. And then he also had to deal with the death of his brother-in-law, after which he began to complain of chest pains,” continues his sister.

On December 19, 2024, the life of 42-year-old soldier Oleksandr Polishchuk was cut short in a hospital in Kharkiv region...

“He was a wonderful person, such a positive guy. It's a pity, a good person, cheerful. Wherever he was, there was always laughter; it’s very sad for him, sad for his children who are now orphans, patience to his wife, and patience to his mother, because he was the only son. She raised a very good and kind son,” said Oleksandr Polishchuk's friend Tamara.

The teacher of the deceased serviceman, Petro, added: “He studied at the Velykyi Zhytyn school. He was very positive, such an athlete, in all respects a very good person. We mourn him because this is an incredible tragedy.”

The defender of Ukraine was buried on December 23, 2024, at the cemetery of the village of Velykyi Zhytyn.

His mother lost her only son, his wife was left without a loving husband, and two children will grow up without their father's support and care...

Glavkom joins the moment of silence. We honor the memory of all Ukrainians who died in the struggle for their Homeland. We remember those killed by Russian invaders, light candles of memory, and bow our heads in grief during the nationwide moment of silence, paying tribute to the bright memory of Ukrainian citizens who gave their lives for freedom and independence of the state: all soldiers, civilians, and children, all who died in the struggle against Russian occupiers and as a result of the attack by enemy troops on Ukrainian cities and villages.
